Shinty

Shinty is a team sport played with sticks and a ball. It is played mainly in the Scottish Highlands. The object of the game is to get the ball into the opponents goal. There are 12 players per team, the pitch is usually grass and measures 140 to 170 yards long by 70 to 80 yards wide and the goals are 12 feet wide by 10 feet tall. The duration of the game is two halves of 45 minutes.

Shinty can be played on the grass pitches at Inverclyde.
