sportscotland National Centre Inverclyde has catered for top athletes and coaches for over 30 years, providing our sports men and women with Olympic level facilities.

Xcel Fitness Suite, which opened in May 1997, is a development which contains state-of-the-art equipment over two adjoining areas and features superb cardio-vascular and weights conditioning facilities.

It is used by élite athletes and coaches as well as the governing bodies from a wide range of sports. It is also available to the public on a membership basis for 50 weeks of the year.

Located on the ground floor, it has a multi-zone training area. The conservatory extension houses the latest state-of-the-art Life Fitness cardiovascular equipment. It has touch screens with integrated TVs. On the treadmills USB ports download your workouts plus iPod multiplay compatibility. This cardio theatre delivers digital satellite entertainment for all who wish it while they work out.

The MTS strength range caters for all from the fitness enthusiast to meeting the needs of our élite athletes. The benefits allow the individual to work with a standard dual movement. A platformed Olympic Performance area enables members and squad members to develop their strength and conditioning to Olympic standard. The new Dual Adjustable Cable System enables customers to improve and develop their techniques.

Our friendly, qualified staff enable members to meet their goals and ambitions. As part of the membership you receive instruction on how to use the machines, a free personal fitness programme and health assessment within the first three months of joining. Thereafter our fully qualified friendly instructors will customise to help you achieve your goals and targets with personal fitness programme reviews.

Hand weights

Fitness classes are there for all to attend. Members who wish to participate have a reduced rate and it can help to advance all participants.

Upon joining you receive one hour of instruction on how to use the machines and a free personal programme or health assessment to be taken within the first three months of joining. Fitness programmes can be personally designed to meet the individual's needs.

A health assessment measures all of the following: height, weight, body mass index analysis, blood pressure and cholesterol testing, sit/reach and grip strength testing as well as a VO2 max analysis which indicates your aerobic capacity, measuring your stamina and endurance. Members receive a free health assessment if taken within the first three months of membership. Additional tests cost £15.
