Customer Notice - Main Hall Lighting Upgrade
21 February 2012
We would like to inform you of some work that is being carried out in the main sports hall beginning February 20th and lasting for approximately 2 weeks.
There should be minimum disruption to your activities and we thank you for your co-operation in advance. The main hall lighting will be upgraded to provide a higher standard of lighting so that you can enjoy your activity in brighter surroundings.
Background
The existing lights provide a maximum light source of 250lux provided by expensive sodium lamps which have a yellow tint, take a while to heat up to their full potential and are extremely expensive to operate and maintain. In order for sportscotland National Centre Inverclyde to provide the highest quality of lighting for sports which use the hall and to meet our carbon efficiency programme it is essential that we replace the lighting system.
Solution
The solution is to retain the existing fittings and install a 250w induction lamp within the existing cabling. The proposed lighting output will provide an average of 883lux which exceeds the requirement for international guidelines for certain sports. There is also the huge energy savings which will see our electricity consumption come down by more than 50% and our maintenance costs by 75% annually which means that overall the payback on investment will be 3.35 years.
Customer Feedback
Due to the huge increase in lighting output we will be operating the lights slightly differently than before. We will only be using half of the lights during certain times but with the knowledge we are providing more light than we previously did and saving considerable energy. We do want to hear from our customers when the work has been completed and hope that the refurbishments help add to your experience here at the national centre. Please feel free to speak to any of our staff or fill out one of our customer comment cards.
Yours faithfully,
John Kent
