Frequently asked questions

Q. Do you have to be a member to use the facilities, classes and services?
A. Most facilities, services and classes are available on a pay as you play basis, subject to availability. See elsewhere on the website for details however Xcel Fitness Suite is ONLY open to members.

Q. Can I use a leisure card at sportscotland National Centre Inverclyde?
A. sportscotland National Centre Inverclyde is not a local authority facility and does not have any reciprocal arrangements with North Ayrshire Council for the use of leisure cards.

Q. I am a senior citizen. What discounts do you offer?
A. Our prices are very competitive with other local facilities and as above there are are no reciprocal arrangements with the local authority at this time for further subsidy on an individual basis. 

Q. How do I make a booking?
A. Bookings and payments can be made by phone (0845 126 0664), in person at main house reception or for certain activities online booking is available. We ask you to pay before you play as this helps us identify who is on site for health and safety. 

Q. I am thinking of trying tennis but I do not have a racquet. Can I hire one before I make up my mind to buy?
A. Yes you can hire a variety of items of indoor sports equipment for an additional £2 per person. 

Q. What are the opening times of the centre?
A. sportscotland National Centre Inverclyde is open from 9am until 10.00 seven days per week for general community use subject to availability of facilities. We close for two weeks over the Christmas and New Year period but are open on all other public holidays. 

Q. I have tried to book in the past and been told the facilities are not available all weekend. How can this be?
A. A major role of sportscotland National Centre Inverclyde is to support our future champions and we frequently have squads from various sports and sometimes other countries, living and training here. In addition many of the National Governing Bodies of Sport use us to deliver Coaching Education courses. When we have residents this sometimes impacts on availability for other users at certain times. 

Q. How accessible are your facilities for people with disabilities?
A. Where possible, adaptations have been made to make our facilities user friendly for a wide range of abilities. Please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss any concerns you may have and we can make individual arrangements if necessary.

Q. How safe will my child be taking part in sports at Inverclyde?
A. All Inverclyde staff are trained on sportscotland's Child Protection Policy, and abide by our Code of Practice for the protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults. We ask for your cooperation in bringing your child to class and being on time to pick them up. For casual bookings we are mindful of our young users however you should satisfy yourself of their wellbeing and are welcome to stay and supervise them. 

Q. Is there a café where we can wait whilst our children are playing sport?
A. The café in the sports hall building is open during the day and is available for all our customers. 

Q. Can anyone come and stay at Inverclyde?
A. Accommodation at Inverclyde is only open to groups participating in sport. This can be clubs, schools, colleges, squads and teams, workplace teams etc. If your group is interested in any of our services we will assist where possible to ensure you get maximum benefit from your stay. 

Q. Is there a bar open to casual users?
A. Yes. The Kintyre Lounge Bar in the basement of the main house is open to the public. Whether you have been playing (or watching) football or badminton, taking part in an exercise class or trying out the Trim Trail or even after a stroll you can meet and relax with friends and opponents. The bar is open from 6pm-11pm Tuesday to Thursday & 5.30pm-midnight Friday and Saturday. Why not ask about post match food for your own and visiting teams. Who knows who else you may see there... 

Q. How can I find out what is happening at Inverclyde throughout the year?
A. Our website is updated frequently www.nationalcentreinverclyde.org.uk, you can also find us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/inverclyde). We often have features and information in the Largs and Millport Weekly News and the Largs and District Advertiser. Q. Do you have any facilities for annual dinners, prize-givings or other functions?
A. Our main auditorium can seat 160 people and has state-of-the-art audiovisual facilities. The dining room is an excellent venue for large and small groups, Ceilidhs or Discos. Q. Is there any relationship with the watersports centre on Cumbrae?
A. sportscotland National Centre Cumbrae is part of the same organisation and has a similar remit to Inverclyde and we often work together on building a mixed programme to meet customer needs. Cumbrae run a number of sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, power boating and cruising courses throughout the year. Q. If I attend a course at James Watt College does that mean I have access to facilities at Inverclyde?
A. James Watt College is a partner and valued customer of sportscotland National Centres Inverclyde and Cumbrae. Students and staff use the facilities for course based activities within their sports courses. For further Information on courses delivered by James Watt visit www.jameswattcollege.ac.uk. Out with class times students and staff are welcome to book facilities as casual users.

Q. Where is the nearest cash machine?
A. There is a free cash machine at the local Spar convenience store at 25 Holehouse Road, Largs KA30 9EL (0.7 miles/1.127 kilometres away from Inverclyde's front door).

Q. How do you reach Largs by public transport?
A. By train. There is a frequent train service to and from Glasgow Central Station with trains every hour and the journey lasting around one hour. The centre is around a mile from Largs Station and there is a taxi rank outside the front door of the station. For more information check out www.scotrail.co.uk.
By bus. There are bus services to Largs from Glasgow, Paisley, Ayr and Greenock.

Q. How do you get to and from Glasgow and Prestwick Airport?
A. Glasgow Airport is a short taxi journey to Paisley Gilmour Street train station, from there the train to Largs takes just under one hour.
From Prestwick Airport train station, take the Glasgow train, then change at Kilwinning for Largs.
